I am so madly in love with this anime/manga, it isn't even funny...
In the beginning, I had a lot of criticisms ("I can't hit a moving target with a cannon!" IT'S MOVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE DOWN A PERFECTLY STRAIGHT ROAD AND GOING MAYBE 15mph, WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN'T HIT IT!?) but when you finish episode 5 is when it really picks up. I was skeptical and didn't understand the hype until then, and after that it was "HOLY SH--- NEED TO FINISH" and I wound up staying up until something like 2am with my husband watching it even though we knew our son would be waking up between 4 and 5, lol
I decided to read the manga to see if I got any answers, and, well, I got SOME answers, but mostly just more and more questions. I won't go into any further detail about the manga, just that I kinda hate myself for reading it, because I'm even more antsy about the series now XD I NEED ANSWERS!!!
At any rate, I say just make it through episode 5 before deciding whether or not to stick it out. It's slow in the beginning, and it slows down again a bit after episode 10 or so, but after reading the manga, trust me when I say it's about to pick back up and NEVER SLOW DOWN. I couldn't find a single possible place for them to end the season easily, so I think there will be a major cliffhanger. It's worth it, though, especially if you like an anime that will make you theorize and leave you with a lot of tension.

I wouldn't really say its my type of show, but it got pretty good after it got into the Defense of Trost arc. It's also got pretty nice production values. I can only wish Total Eclipse had been given the kind of budget Attack on Titan seems to have. (That may seem like an odd comparison, but the mangaka for Titan has aknowledged Muv Luv Alternative as a major inspiration.)
