This is one of the new series that's currently airing in Japan, and its hilarious. It may not seem like a comedic series from the first few minutes, but it is. (At least partially -there are still some more serious plot elements at play in the second and third episodes.) I'm including some info about the series in spoiler tags (while I recommend watching the series with no spoilers, I also realise a lot of people aren't going to want to go into it with no idea what to expect). {Plot Detail Spoilers}The main character in this series is a Demon King who engaged in a war of conquest but was driven back by a human hero. He and his most loyal general flee through a portal and end up in modern day Tokyo, where they find they have lost most of their powers. As a result the Demon King ends up getting a job at McDonalds (or rather a parody of McDonalds) as he plots a return to power.
{More Spoilers}The show really gets into gear after a human girl the demon king encounters reveals herself to be Emilia, the hero he fought before coming to Earth. Of course she's lost most of her powers as well, but that doesn't mean she's given up on killing him. Here's are two of my favorite clips from the first two episodes: {Clip Two}

While it's largely this show's humour that won me over, it appears to still have some serious elements. Events back on Ente Isla influence what happens on earth, and the first few episodes establish a decent magic system (though I feel the latest episode broke it a bit). Characterization can be a bit inconsistent sometimes, but there's some interesting stuff going on with the main heroine. Emilia can clearly see that Maou has come to value humans after being forced to live among them, but has difficulty accepting it. Killing him was her purpose in life (perhaps literally given her convenient half angel heritage), and given that one of his armies razed her home village back on Ente Isla she has good reason to hate him. She actually wishes he still acted like an evil demon king, because things would be so much simpler that way.

So this one finished airing a few weeks ago. The second half was a bit slow at times, but it remained my favorite show of the Spring 2013 season in spite of that. I'm really hoping it will get a sequel soon, as this season only adapted the first two of the eight or nine novels that are out so far, and I've seen some spoilers for the third novel that have whet my appetite for seeing more. The sales for the first volume of the Japanese blurays are pretty strong, so its got a good chance of getting a sequel. Though then again it is a Kadokawa series, so maybe I shouldn't get my hopes for a sequel up too high... (FMP was published by one of Kadokawa's subsidiaries)
