See it. ASAP.
It's excellent (granted, my limited Japanese might have me over estimating it). Yahiko is a bit sidelined and Kaoru comes across minorly chickified, but the stories they use come before the stories where Kaoru and Yahiko are pounding named villains.
Kaoru and Kenshin's actors do a wonderful job. There is even a believable shift from battousai to ruruoni.
The story archs used are predominately Jinn'e Udoh and the Megumi/Opium thing.
The Onwiban group's involvement is limited, and while listening for the name, not sure it was ever said.
We DO get the Jinn'e v Kenshin duel, complete with Kaoru being awesome.
Yahiko is handwaved as a pre-existing student, so we might not get to hear his backstory...assuming there's another movie (hope so).
Saitoh is in it, and we get half of the story of Kenshin's scars as well as a truncated version of the Saitoh v Kenshin fight that gets interrupted by an official...though I hope that's not meant to be that scene...because, if it is supposed to be the Saitoh v Kenshin fight, it does not live up to the anime much....
Aoishi does not appear, his role seems to be split between Saitoh and Jinn'e.
The big guy that was first claiming to be the battousai and ended up suckering Kenshin into a fight doesn't appear...
Sanosuke does appear and a decent version of the Sanosuke v Kenshin duel occurs.
But overall, this is what I'd want from a Kenshin live action.
By the way, just realized it.
KenshinxKaoru is similar in many ways to SousukexKaname. The age difference isn't there, of course. I believe there's better than ten years difference between Kenshin and Kaoru.
But some of the basic relationship is there.
