I was recently introduced to this Canadian made series by my brother. It airs on Space in Canada and BBC America in the US. It's currently in its third season, but the first two seasons only have ten episodes each and are available from a variety of sources, including Amazon's streaming service.
This anonymous plot summary from IMFDB gives a pretty good account of what the series is about (at least initially -things have changed since the first season):
"Orphan Black follows outsider, orphan and street-wise chameleon Sarah. After witnessing a woman's suicide, Sarah assumes the stranger's identity - who happens to look just like her. Expecting to solve all her problems by cleaning out the dead woman's savings, Sarah is instead thrust headlong into a kaleidoscopic mystery as she realizes the dizzying truth - she and the dead woman are clones. As Sarah searches for answers, she discovers the chilling fact that there are more people like her out there - genetically identical individuals who were planted in unsuspecting birth parents and nurtured in completely different circumstances. With no idea who created the clones, she'll need to discover the reason in a hurry as an assassin is killing them one by one."
One of the interesting things about this series is that the main actress plays multiple characters -sometimes more than one in the same scene.
It's not a perfect series -I kind of feel that one major character's subplot has been going off the rails- but I've found it very compelling. Though I should warn anyone who decides to check it out that it fully deserves its mature rating. This is not a series to watch with young children.
