I started this new thread because I didn't want to go into too much depth about this particular topic in the more general "Great Unanswered Questions of the FMP Verse" thread.
Kurz uses a variety of rifles in the various FMP material.
In season one, he uses a Walther WA 2000, a bullpup style semi automatic sniper rifle. The WA 2000 was an extremely expensive and complicated weapon of which less than two hundred were built. Its a cool weapon but there are probably more modern semi auto sniper rifles which offer comparable accuracy with less parts and a lower price tag.
Kurz also uses a M16 fitted with a red dot sight during the flashback to when he, Sousuke, and Mao first became a team -this is especially ridiculous when one considers that he was using it in an anti-material role where something like a .50 Barret (ie something firing a way bigger round than the M16's tiny 5.56mm round) would probably be more appropriate.
In the hot springs episode of Fumoffu, Kurz uses a VSS Vintorez. VSS stands for Vintovka Snayperskaya Spetsialnaya which translates as Special Sniper Rifle. It is a specialized weapon that fires large, heavy subsonic bullets. It has a very short range compared to sniper rifles shooting supersonic ammunition, however the subsonic ammunition combined with a large integrated sound suppressor makes it very quiet compared to most rifles. The Vintorez is also very compact (and can be disassembled for transport) and is capable of full auto as well as semi auto fire, so it can also be used as an effective close quarters weapon. Its odd that Kurz would have one of these since they are specialist weapons that very few people outside the former Soviet Union have ever fired even in our world, let alone the FMP verse where the Cold War is still ongoing.
Kurz used a Heckler & Koch G36 during the car chase in The Second Raid, but the G36 is an assault rifle.
In the novel A Dancing Very Merry Christmas Kurz uses a rifle then is not explicitly identified but is probably meant to be a Heckler & Koch G3-SG/1. G3-SG/1s were made by selecting particularly accurate versions of the standard G3 military rifle and modifying them for use as sharpshooting weapons. It is not as accurate as some purpose built sniper rifles but is quite versatile. Its trigger pack maintains the standard G3's select fire capability (meaning it can fire in either semi or full auto) but also ads a special capability. When a button behind the trigger is pressed, it will lighten the trigger pull to make accurate shooting easier (iirc the trigger will return to the standard pull weight after it is pulled once).
Lastly, iirc the rifle Kurz used to snipe Casper in Approaching Nick of Time is a 1950s production Winchester, model not specified but I'm thinking a Model 70. The older Winchester Model 70s were highly regarded and are quite valuable. The Model 70 did see some use as a sniper rifle and in fact Fabrique Nationale now markets a modernized version of the weapon as a police sniper rifle, however the more modern version uses a synthetic stock instead of a wood stock (environmental conditions such as moisture can actually mess with a wooden stock enough to affect a rifle's accuracy).
