I'm not really sure how I'd make a long story out of it, but there's a fun little story idea that's been kicking around in my head recently. It has previously occurred to me that Mithril could have other whispered protection missions going on and that such a mission could be used as the basis for an OC oriented fanfic. Problem is, how is some OC oriented fanfic about a guy protecting another whispered girl supposed to be anything but a pale shadow of canon?
Well, after my recent renewal of interest in another series that had a rather devious non action guy as a major character I got the idea of a first person story with a male whispered as the perspective character. This poor SOB's story starts out with a date gone bad. He was very happy to be asked out by a cute girl, but then she tries to abduct him at gunpoint or something. He then gets saved by another girl he knows but never really took much notice of. Who is also well armed. And insists that he come with her for his own protection. As you might imagine, his running commentary on these events as the perspective character would not be particularly positive. (Imagine commentary along the lines of "I must have really pissed someone up there off today" and "When did my life become a bad action movie?"
The problem of course (aside from the fact that I don't write much nowadays) is that I don't really have a very clear idea of where to take such a story after the beginning. Sure, maybe this guy gets introduced to the wonderful world of Mithril, but what's he supposed to do there really? Particularly if he's to be kept away from the usual crew?
I wouldn't wrack your brains too hard on this one. I have a poor track record with actually doing much with my fanfic ideas. But if any of you can think of any interesting directions such a story could be taken by all means bounce them off me.
