Are any of you watching any of the anime that's currently airing this season? I'm watching quite a few shows this season, but I'm not sure there's too much I'd recommend at the moment. This isn't to say everything that's airing is terrible (though I will admit to watching some rather dubious stuff at times because I like to watch new stuff ), but I'm not sure how much of it would suite the tastes of the people who tend to post here.

Not this season, I haven't... I keep meaning to at least check out Kyoukai no Kanata, but I just haven't been in the mood for something new, I'm sort of in a nostalgic mode at the moment. ^^;

I started watching the gundam build fighters. Its dumb as fuck, but I like watching the mechs fight each other.
The story is absolute shit.

Yeah, there really isn't much worth watching this season. I've been catching 'Strike the Blood' and 'Golden Time' though, and while they at least keep me occupied with something to look forward to. 'Golden Time' though, it's like watching a show built around Inaba Mizuki in college XD Chick is freaking nuts!

Golden Time's source novels were written by the same author as the Toradora novels -what exactly were you expecting? Strike the Blood is actually one of my favorite shows this season, but I wasn't really sure how it would go over around here. Even though Himeragi reminded me a little of Sousuke during the first arc (remember that scene in the hardware store?). Speaking of FMP connections, Shinchiro Miki (Kurz) is playing a grumpy fox herald in Gingatsune, though I'm not sure how many of you would be into that one . Though on the plus side that series is pretty much completely devoid of fan service (not that I necessarily mind some good fan service, but I'm concerned by how many series I have to be careful about recommending to people who haven't seen much anime). As for Gundam Build Fighters, that has actual mecha? Its not just about people building Gundam models? Speaking of mecha series, Valvrave the Liberator's second season is actually surprisingly strong. Though of course it builds on the first season, which was entertaining but rather WTF.

Gundam Build Fighters is about people who build the mechs, and they stick it in a table-top game that makes them act like they are real. So when they hit each other with beam sabers, the other mech will be cut in half. Its fun to watch mechs from different gundam series fighting each other.
Then comes the story. The main character is good at building them, but cant fight well. Some other kid from a different dimension shows up and is the opposite. They join forces and enter a tournament, with enemies that keep getting stronger.
All the usual dialog of "You remember this! I'll be back!" etc.

I finally did get around to checking out Kyoukai no Kanata. I love it~ It has its flaws, definitely, it's too fast paced (find out in episode 10 that everything up to then has taken place over 6 months, which kinda explains why the pacing is just off - and I also found out that Sakura Inami is an anime original character which probably explains why her part feels so poorly integrated), but it's got me hooked now. Bad time to decide to catch up, though, ep 10 is a combination serious heartbreaker and eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil cliffhanger Q____Q Wishing I could find translations of the light novels, though it's probably best I don't spoil myself like that, I keep doing that with series lately XD
Episode 6 is just outright hilarious, then it becomes dark so soon after. Ep. 6 is kinda just worth the watch on its own, though, even if you have no interest in the rest of the series. It's completely absurd, but a great watch, I've rewatched that one episode a few times and it always makes me laugh ^^ (And I only started this series a few days ago, I REALLY like that episode...)

Well, it's a new season, and I'm watching some new shows. One of my favorites is Nobunaga: The Fool. Its basically a sort of medieval mecha sci-fi series featuring reincarnations of Oda Nobunaga, Joan of Arc, and Leonardo da Vinci. Its not perfect (particularly the latest episode), but I've been finding it loads of fun. Including the ED as well since its awesome and badass: Another of my top picks is The Pilot's Love Song. This was one of my most anticipated series since its set in the same world as The Princess and the Pilot, a film from 2011 which I absolutely love. While this new series seems more "typical anime" than it predecessor (it has a gaggle of high schoolers where the The Princess and the Pilot had two main characters who had never set foot in a high school for instance) and has much lower production values, I still think it has good potential. A deposed Prince, a girl with a double identity, and a journey into the unknown -it may not be earth shattering but at least isn't not just another high school series. Though I would recommend seeing The Princess and the Pilot before seeing this -not because its necessary to understand the setting (in fact it arguably makes it more confusing) but because its an exceptional film and I think it should be seen without preconceptions. Other shows I'm watching include Wizard Barristers (interesting premise, though the execution is imperfect and I could have done without the main character getting groped by her familiar), Buddy Complex (very Gundam-esque, though I didn't particularly like the main gimmick) and Sakura Trick (a guilty pleasure -its basically a straight up yuri series). Plus I'm continuing with Golden Time, Strike the Blood, and Magi Season 2.

My watch list for this season hasn't changed much it seems.
Nobunaga: The Fool was a bit weak from episodes three to five, but its been strong since then. Its not the best writing I've ever seen but its loads of fun (though there are some darker elements at play too). Of course part of whether people will enjoy this one depends on whether they can deal with the way it uses lots of historical stuff as inspiration, but does whatever it darn well pleases with them.
The Pilot's Love Song started off kind of slow, but its been cranking things up recently (though I have to say that successfully shooting down multiple WWII style fighter planes with bolt action rifles is kind of ridiculous). And its also reached the point where its finally established a firm connection with The Princess and the Pilot (well sort of -some of the stuff it references is more from the novel The Princess and the Pilot is based off of than the movie itself). Wonder if we'll get to see Charles or Juana face to face -I'm rather fond of those two.
Another show I've been enjoying this season is Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha but I'm not sure you guys are into light drama fare very much.
Also, Sunrise's new mecha show Buddy Complex has been decent. Though the "Buddy System" is serious yaoi doujin bait and injects a super robot-ish aspect which isn't entirely welcome.

I wound up getting into Kill la Kill at the end of the season. It's absolutely ridiculous and it breaks my "I'm tired of fanservice" deal, lol, but it's also really great. The fanservice is absurdly integrated into the plot, and no one is safe. The men are running around just as naked as the girls, except for when it comes to the Goku Uniforms and Kamui. The Goku Uniforms in general seem to have complete coverage, up to and including heavy armor, or, more ridiculously, being wrapped as a mummy with a ball gag and tentacle whips for weapons (GAMAGORIIII) XD Meanwhile the Kamui are only worn by female characters during the course of the show, and those have some serious coverage issues, and it's explained, again absurdly, away with some lore stuff why they're still defended in spite of it XD
Don't go into it expecting it to make sense, though, that's really key. I had an idea that it was going to be completely ridiculous when I started it, so I was entertained. If I had gone in expecting something serious, I probably would've stopped watching it.

Some of my anime buddies are massive Kill la Kill fans. I'm not quite as big on it, but I did get some enjoyment out of it. Interestingly enough for all its crazyness I would consider one of its strengths to be consistency. Does that make any sense?
As far as my own picks for the Winter season, The Pilot's Love Song was ultimately one of those series that could have been a lot better than it was. It had its moments and it had potential, but it suffered from adaptation issues, art issues, and source material issues. The Princess and the Pilot may be one of my favorite movies but this indirect sequel didn't measure up.
So it seems my top picks for this season are Nobunaga: The Fool and Buddy Complex. I'm not hugely fond of Buddy Complex's central gimmick and it resembles Gundam an awful lot but on the other hand its been fairly solid and consistent. Nobunaga: The Fool has had its weak spots but I like the crazy premise and its had a fairly strong second half with some interesting developments.
We've already discussed two seasons of anime in this thread so I'm thinking maybe we should start a new thread for one that's about to start.

Sure thing, I don't mind if there's a whole bunch of threads, so we can just have them 'Spring 2014' 'Fall 2014' etc lol, makes it a little easier to keep track of ^^ If anyone would prefer I could make another subforum specifically for discussing current seasons as they air for threads like this. I don't know if anyone would find that easier than keeping the season and individual series threads in the same place, or if it would be a hassle.
Kill la Kill was about the only series this season I got into. I started Noragami and Inari, Kon Kon, Koi Iroha, but I just couldn't get into either of them. Some of the stuff that's come by me for later Noragami looks interesting, though, so maybe I'll pick it back up and try again. Next season is gonna be a big one lol and then Amagi Brilliant Park is either gonna be Fall or Winter (I assume fall, we'll see). Got a lot to look forward to ^^
