Surprisingly, the scene in the next episode with the main character doing CPR on the princess was rather devoid of fanservice. Now that I think about it, that impression you got probably came mostly from the characters I wanted to play in the various forum RPGs like Mithril Academy. In that case we're mainly looking at Rocket Girls and Total Eclipse. Rocket Girls does more or less fit the bill since its a (comedic) science fiction series with three teenage girls as the main characters. Total Eclipse (which is a mecha series) is a little more questionable. Overall I'd say it has a relatively diverse cast but on the other hand if you discount the male lead the three most prominent characters are these three who are supposedly 15, 21, and 17. Its probably worth noting that the seventeen year old is generally treated like an adult and that she pretty much had to be younger than the male lead for the twist about him being her bastard elder half brother to work. I don't know if that twist was planned from the beginning or not though -there was about half a decade between the first publication for the series and the publication that revealed that the two characters were siblings. (Which also meant that there was plenty of time for the two characters to become a favored ship among fans and doujin artists. ) Are you still keeping up with Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun?

Ahahah, yeah, that would be where I'd gotten the impression XD
I am I am! And somehow I've become completely obsessed with the Nozaki x Chiyo ship, and I've written a few short one-shots on them already Q_Q I have a Kinokuniya order I need to put in soon (FMP Tabletop RPG rule book!!!!!) and I'm gonna put in all the GSNK stuff there is, too >.>

Okay, I still find the writing in Aldnoah Zero pretty questionable, but at this point I'm guessing it's diverged significantly from Gundam Seed. I guess both Rocket Girls and Gallelei Donna are pretty ridiculous, but Rocket Girls was a comedy (despite using fairly hard science). Total Eclipse had a fair bit of ridiculous fan service and harem-esque antics (it is a non adult spin off of a H-game series), but it also had a rather dark and complex story (which for better or for worse isn't fully realized in the anime version). Actually, something that's worth noting about Total Eclipse is that while its a side story concentrating on a group of test pilots who only sometimes see combat, the H-game its a spin off of (Muv Luv Alternative) was one of -if not the- major inspiration for the Attack on Titan manga. So yeah it's not entirely lightweight material despite all the racy artwork that's been published for it. I'm rather partial to Seo and Waka myself. Though I'll admit Chiyo and Nozaki are a lot of fun, and Chiyo is rather cute. BTW, what's your read on Chiho's intelligence? She can seem like a bit of an airhead but she often reads people pretty accurately. Maybe she's just an airhead where her infatuation with Nozaki is involved?

I think Seo is my favorite character, but for some reason Nozaki and Sakura are my favorite couple. I don't even know why to be honest, they just are ^^;; I don't think Chiyo is particularly book smart, but she does seem good with people. And even though she adores Nozaki, she knows when he's being ridiculous and even calls him out on it, so she doesn't seem totally airheaded to me lol

As far as individual characters go, I rather like Kashima. Who is apparently voiced by Mai Nakahara (one of my favorite voice actresses) though she doesn't sound all that much like the roles I normally associate Mai Nakahara with.
